For anyone’s who’s ever watched a bootleg movie (hehem) going back and watching the same movie off of a REAL DVD always seemed high def to me. Now we’re supposed to understand that DVD-quality means plain old “Standard Def.” and if we want to show off our pretty not-so-little HDTVs we’ve got to upgrade to High Def movie technology. That ain’t cheap and I guess I don’t quite get the point. One of my favorite gadget blogs, Gizmodo, had a comparison between the two standards (HD, standard) on its website today. Yeah the new, very expensive technology looks better, but it can’t be that much better unless you have a 50″+ TV. But, I guess if you have a 50″ TV you probably have enough money to drop on silly, meaningless upgrades. I just hope that people who actually can’t afford these technologies aren’t convinced to take out more credit card debt for it. No way that’s a good thing!
